building blocks , those wooden boxes with shapes that you slot in blocks of the same shape 

all these problem solving toys set you up for a life of creative problem solving ! 

and the dirt ! yes we were allowed to play in the road, to wander the woods unaccompanied 

people say it was safer in those days and i dont think it was 

its just thats what was expected at the time 

even at a very young age i appreciated that freedom and was aware of it 

of how lucky i was to travel on the bus with just my brother
