The ones they use are usually extremely insightful and written by very intelligent people who contribute a lot to a particular issue covered.
The vast majority is probably hate mail from angry readers, in the past readers used to write angry letters and send them to newspapers to complain about a particular article. But in the modern day with the comments tab, readers just use that to insult the author.
The phrase “ comment is free facts are sacred” should be changed to “insults are free but make them intelligent”
For such is the abuse written by people on here. - Recommend? (0)

Seems to me the Beeb needs a good shake up/out from top to ... well several layers from the top.
DG at the timeThompson was told of investigation into Savile at a "pre Christmas drinks party" and did nothing about it.
New DG Entwhistle (director of vision at the time) was told of investigation into Savile at a "rather busy lunch" and did nothing about it.
Why were they informed at a party and a lunch - is this the only way someone with info could approach/contact them?

The Telegraph reports today that hundreds of under-age girls are being given contraception without their parents even being informed of the fact (Since many local authorities refused to provide any information, the true number is certainly in the thousands.)
If an under-age girl is having sex then someone is committing a criminal offence by having sex with her. And the people doing out the contraception have absolutely no idea who it is. It might be her 13-year old boyfriend, but it could just as easily be a gang of Asians (how many of the under-age Rochdale and Rotherham victims weren't using contraception?), or a respected public figure.
So we pursue those who 'turned a blind eye to Jimmy Savile' like a pack of hyenas, while turning a blind eye to the facilitating that is going on under our noses. What's the difference, apart from forty or fifty years?
In forty or fifty years from now, when we've decided that facilitating criminal sex with under-age girls instead of reporting it to the police is actually a serious offence, will we be pursuing a bunch of nurses and social workers in their seventies and eighties to 'make them pay'?
