My experience is that pirate copies of popular films are available in shops all over China, sometimes before the films are officially released.
I've no idea how much Hollywood makes from having it's films shown in China but I doubt it's a massive amount. But this report states:

This quota does not apply for films imported in their 3D or IMAX versions only. Additional films can be imported on a flat-fee basis.
