Dear rich,
It is true sobbing is not an attractive quality. However, it is wrong to presume economics plays no role in modern relationships in the UK. Society ultimatley driven by economics it hits all aspects of our lives. Although the example I gave was simply anecdotal of respective gendered attitudes to this economic element of relationships i am not alone in exploring this issue. Especially during the reccession we have had a number of articles in press more respectable then Cosmo on girls marrying or forming relationships 'down' as more men then women find themselves out of work particularly accute in younger age groups. Often such relationships are described as 'settiling' in such publications. This is an issue because previouse gendered roles appear to play a bigger part in the process of forming relationships then many would admit and unemployment although both socially alienating and personally damaging may also imapct on the capacity of men to find partners because women do care about the economic status of their partner. Regardless of any protestations to the contary I believe that the process of being out of work does have an impact on hetrosexual partnerships in a fashions that doesn't occur in same sex relationships. Though some sort of broader study is potentially more in oder then utilising my suspicions and anecdotes.
