There is a well known saying by Phelps Adams...
The communist, seeing the rich man and his fine home, says: 'No man should have so much.' The capitalist, seeing the same thing, says: 'All men should have so much.'
And that applies here. Should the British address what some see as unfairness by raising people up or by tearing things down? The second option doesn't make everyone richer, but only some people poorer.
And the social democrat says "Oh yes, indeed they should, dear, but you can have only one until everyone does."
