misc notes


Although Wikipedia contradicts me (half truths here maybe) the history of collecting societies dates back to France, where a composer eating in a restaurant noticed the orchestra was playing his music. They had not asked for permission (and therefore he was not getting paid for his creative endeavors), so he refused to pay for his meal in protest. They took him to court in a prestigious case, opening up the public appetite for collecting societies...
