OK. Clearly, I have to spell it out. If the only intention is to attract teenage boys with explosions and pretty girls, if there is no ulterior political motive, if the film is not pandering to any deep-seated paranoia, then why not pick any country at random as the aggressor? Why North Korea? In fact, why America as victim? Why not have Latvia invading Bolivia? You can have exactly the same story with all the special effects you like. It is disingenuous to pretend there is no subtext to the countries chosen.
