In 1939, when people in the West first began to hear of the sickening atrocities by both Wehrmacht and SS in Poland, they reacted just like the ConDem apologists do now - either by blanket denial and parroting of the original prejudice and propaganda lies against Poles and Jews, or like "champagne antisemites" and "champagne anti-Slavs" - "I suppose something probably had to be done, but I don't want to hear and see anything, let them do it behind our backs, just get it done, don't bother me with it."
