about the train dispute ... 
I don't see why it would be helpful for the guards on the trains 
to stop operating the doors 
'so that they can spend more time with the passengers'
i don't need a guard to spend time with me on the train 
it is not a kindergarten ! 
i want the guard to operate the doors 
because its a stressful situation 
where people can get caught in the doors or fall into the gap 
and i doubt whether the drivers will be offered more money 
for doing this extra work ... 

once the new role is establish 
it will be a matter of months before it is deemed redundant as a post ... 
we don't need someone on board to spend time with the passengers. 
We are then left with a safety issue ... 
a driver only train, 
and then what happens if the driver is incapacitated in some way 
e.g. because of a fallen tree, or a terrorist attack 
and there is nobody else on board to take responsibility for the safety of the passengers ...
