''It is perfectly reasonable to expect people to develop their cultural experience. There is absolutely nothing elitist about the ballet, the theatre, the opera. Just the other day in fact I had the luxury of attending the annual autumn embassy do, and had an interesting debate on this very subject with Colonel Bumffernick, who pointed out that matinĂ©e tickets often go on sale for a mere €45. So yes, I do resent being made to feel unreasonable.''

''Here's an interesting thing I happened upon the other day, as I was enjoying my morning walk in the sunshine. The minister for culture has banned books. Why? He just has. Is this a good thing? Who can say. In the meantime, time for the soothing tones of a true genius of his genre [hyperlink].''
lets have an open thread on what people would like to have enough money to be able to do. like the ''if you had a million pounds....'' question, but more humble and real, and unique to everyone's different situation. i would like enough money to be able to:
- go out to eat once or twice a week (nowhere posh, just somewhere simple with friends)
- buy an oven
- smoke proper cigarettes instead of rollies
- once every month or so, be able to go to a different city for a weekend
- live somewhere that has 2 or 3 rooms instead of 1
- every so often, think to myself: ''ok, ive been staring at my amazon wishlist for the past 6 months....im not going to make a habit of this, but im gunna buy those 15 books ive been craving''
- when i see something that i just know someone in particular would LOVE, be able to buy it for them
- get the wine that is one price range up
- buy perfume when i want it, instead of having to be all smarmy and chipper with sales girls to swindle them out of a sample
