The Cold War is over (and we won); but for some bizarre reason, there are still pockets of resistance buried deep in our universities.
There is enough nonsense in this article to persuade many of todays youth to avoid university altogether, but my favourite bit is this;
... one consequence of the missile crisis was to usher in a period in which the superpowers made sure to engage one another well away from their own populations and by proxy if possible: from Vietnam to Afghanistan to Central America.
I do think that by placing missiles in Cuba the Russians had already figured this out, the alternative being WW3. I also consider Central America to be pretty close to the USA, and was under the impression that the USSR had a border with Afghanistan
