At least one in 10 children in the UK experiences sexual abuse before they reach 18, numbers backed up in recent research by the NSPCC. It may be as many as one in six.
This is a suspiciously high statistic. It's not as if charities haven't been known in the past to release trumped up sensationalist reports to justify their own existence.
In fact I'm straight out calling it bullshit.

Nothing will change until people learn to actually listen to children. The starting point should always be that the child is telling the truth.
Except that children lie, allot. I know I did as a child. Children are not necessarily angelic, they are often deviant and manipulative.
If we start with the basic assumption that a child is always telling the truth then it whats to stop a child from making a malicious claim against a teacher they didn't like and ruining their career? Possibly even their whole lives. It's not as if this isn't unheard of.
Listening to possible victims is important, but we also need to protect people from becoming the victims of spiteful accusations.

The other evening around dusk I went out to move the conker trap I had set up, when I heard a rustling sound in a nearby bush. I moved very quietly so as not to scare whatever it was. It was a hedgehog. They might seem like shy animals, but they aren't really. In fact, [obscure fact about hedgehogs]. I see it as if we are all like the particles that make up the soil. Some of us touch the hedgehog more than others, but it's still a comprehensive unit, with each particle depending on the other. A whole eco system at work. I'm still learning.

oh ,, i had taken these two as being #1 and #2
my mother taught me as a child that when you ask for something its polite to respond with a thank you, even if you're given something that isnt quite right.i think the people managing this ideas thread seem very rude and surly.
it would only be 5% impersonations and the rest would be people bitching about cliques.
