The state always knows best when to give and take life by all accounts.
By all accounts, I think you are correct. They do believe they know best. After listening to many stories from doctors and nurses, after listening to many stories in the press on politicians, I do find it comical that they still believe they know best.
The stories are such as nurses walking to a patient when there is a heart monitor call when the patient is over 70 but running when the patient is a child.
I did hear that in ancient China, a doctor was only paid, when the patient was healthy.
I am quite sure that I know what is best for me and my family. Getting them to accept that, may be a challenge but it is one I am up for because the alternative is unthinkable.

To the faithless, death is feared and brings despair.
Not this faithless (or, as I prefer, 'god free'). Nor do I see a great deal of despair in the counties most free of religion - if anything they are happier.
Death is the end, and if you are tired, in pain, or losing your faculties, welcome.

the thing is phillip is that i can't engage in the process then you thick bastard

Isn't there a fundamental disconnect between believing that God can heal even the most terrible infirmity, and availing yourself of the very best medical treatment available? Is this about keeping the child alive until God can find time in His busy schedule to do the healing bit, or do these people just not trust Him all that much?
I'm being flippant, but for all the talk of God being sovereign, what people really believe in seems to be that God will act secretly, making things a little bit better one undetectable step at a time, making surgeons slightly more skilful, treatment slightly more effective and so on. If they really believed that God could do anything, they'd withdraw treatment and the suffering would be ended one way or another.
And yes, sometimes atheists can be insufferably smug, but there's a difference between discussing beliefs in a fairly robust way out of respect for truth and evidence (like here, for example) and dickishly telling grieving parents that their beliefs are delusional. Anyone doing the latter needs a good slap.

I always see that shortest route thing ... I can't help but notice all these wonderful sidewalks and trails someone has mapped out and beautifully landscaped. Always to the side or around a corner is a footpath many have tred that completely disregard the paved way. In the snazzy areas they have a "keep off the grass" sign posted. I always think of the best laid plans line.
