About 8 months ago I found VERY graphic nude videos of them under his recent items on his computer. I was very upset. Once again I come back to wanting to open up a debate, or debates, about our English language.Why is it that the natives of this island know next to nothing about their language, language being the human being' s most important social skill?I ask this question based upon further empirical evidence that I have very recently collected and which I put before you: I went out and about with my portable chalkboard at the Michaelmas Fair in Bishop' s Castle, Shropshire, yesterday. I amazed people in different ways, including demonstrating and explaining why, in the sequence, MAT, MATE, MAR and MARE, the letter A has four different sounds. My audience, as far as know, did not include university professors or linguists: they were "ordinary" people. And they were fascinated and wanted more. I like sharing my findings with ordinary people! All native speakers of English should know this essential knowledge.So, there is this other question as to why the academic and linguistic world is so conservative, reactionary even, as regards OUR language ( it is not the language of the academics and linguists!). I have to read American book to read about how the English language is used to discriminate amongst native speakers!A further question is about who is "permitted" to discover and divulge new "knowledge". In these times, it would seem that an ordinary nobody is absolutely not allowed to discover anything. especially when there are thousands of qualified academics earing a living doing cutting edge research! It would also seem that such a nobody risks censorship on CiF should he dare to say, "hey, look at what I have found out": he is not allowed to attract attention either to these discoveries or himself!"The Galileo Syndrome is very much alive as regards the English language. I have been reading about the new Australi Basics card where benefit recipients receive their income preloaded on a card which can be used for the basics onle like food, clothing etc. No alcohol or tobacco or other items the Australian government consider inappropriate. They call it "income management".
Would a scheme like that work here in the UK, especially with reports of many children being malnourished despite our vast benefit system?
