The Paralympian's brother Carl and sister Aimee visited him at a police station in Pretoria on Sunday, but did not speak to the assembled media.

His agent, Peet van Zyl, told reporters: "Obviously from a management point of view, and also as a friend, it's a tragic circumstance and events that have unfolded and we can only give Oscar our support at this point in time."

He said that he had visited Pistorius to discuss his career and was "keeping him up to date" about sponsorship and contracts.

On Saturday, the athlete's uncle, Arnold Pistorius, came out strongly against prosecutors seeking to upgrade the charge against his nephew to one of premeditated murder, which carries a sentence of life in prison.

"After consulting with our legal representatives, we deeply regret the allegation of premeditated murder.

"We have no doubt there is no substance to the allegation and that the state's own case, including its own forensic evidence, strongly refutes any possibility of a premeditated murder," he said.

A private funeral service will be held for Reeva Steenkamp on Tuesday, the same day as Pistorius' bail hearing.
