bucking the trend
self primalling
It may be a bullish signal when a stock is able to resist a prevailing downtrend in its own industry or against the broad market. This suggests that investors are attracted to the stock despite negativity surrounding its competitors and peers
Spending is down this season, but the tourist industry is managing to buck the trend, with thousands more holidays sold
This company is the only one to have bucked the trend of a declining industry
The ongoing debate over the fiscal cliff and the threat of increased conflict in the Gaza Strip are likely to add further pressure on stocks over the near term
the oil stocks I discussed have been bucking the market’s downward trend and if this continues they are likely to be the next market leaders
Given the daily downtrend in the overall market, fairly tight stops are recommended on these oil stocks. As I discussed in this week’s trading lesson, stop place and stop management are a key factor in investment success
1. going against the trend
2. when most things go a certain way, and you go in the opposite direction 3. to go against the grain |

Classic Graun correction today:
An article about Kim Wilde entertaining fellow passengers on a London commuter train with a rendition of Kids in America said she had a "pair of glittery reindeer ears nestled in her blond hair". In fact they weren't ears, they were antlers (Wilde ride: Kim's train performance proves a hit, 15 December, page 27)
