Do you know, I don't think he even has forethought to "play to the gallery". Just as it comes to him, like a piece of fluff, he announces it as policy. The danger is, some fluff sticks. I thought Thatcher was a bitch, Gideon scares me more. For all I hate her, at least I knew she was clever.

Yes, and I seem to remember he suffered from an attack of bashfulness a few months ago forcing him to cancel a grilling on Newsnight concerning some or other U Turn and whilst he recovered from yellow fever in one of London's finest eateries his subordinate took Paxman's flak.
